"Way back in 1999 I predicted a significant market for desktop Linux by 2005. (I was targeting better than Mac OS type numbers, in the 10-15% range.) It was clear back then that Linux had found a substantial adoption as a server OS, and it seemed only time before the desktop adoption rivaled at least “the other desktop”.

«Oldest ‹Older 4401 – 4475 of 4475 Newer› Newest»559 to go, make 'em worth reading.
lay off the crack and learn some maths.
SQL queries are "low level" now?
An ORM looks after SQL injection, IoC, DI, connection pooling, validation, and even setting up the tables based on OOD rules. From that perspective, I'd have to say yes.
Are you honestly saying you cannot write an ORM in PHP, or just that it would be difficult?
Compared to .NET, it's going to be difficult but not impossible and it's also not going to be fool proof.
It's like having the fox guard the henhouse! It was never a good idea - look at how they hid the *DLL's in Office in the 90's.
Canonical is doing a Sound Settings Usage Survey. Please do your part to make Ubuntu the world's best OS! (Yes, I mean supplying shit answers.)

Fair enough, I was going to look into Doctrine or Propel to see how they handle it, then I realised I'd rather spend the time learning MiguelSoft®.
Fair enough, I was going to look into Doctrine or Propel to see how they handle it, then I realised I'd rather spend the time learning MiguelSoft®.
That said, Doctrine's annotations (ripped off of Java) offer a high level approach rather than embedding SQL code in every PHP file or creating DAOs every time you want to create a CRUD app.
So, Microsoftie, you are having IoC? MiguelSoft is having loC that is "line of Code".
For every thousand line of code you write you get hooker groupon: 50 percentiles off!
What you think of MiguelSoft® now, Microsoftie?

+5 funny
But the original poster got it wrong: ORM frameworks do not perform Inversion of Control (IoC) or Dependency Injection (DI). That's something that a micro-container does.
You're fired. Get your things and get out.
It's great to have all this talent when people come together.
Oh, yeah, that's what happened to the game, which was responsible for generating this awesome quote:
Hi everyone. What actually ended up happening was that I failed to work on it over the summer due to other commitments.
I am still interested in developing it and I have most of the design figured out. If anyone is interested in taking over, I'm happy to send what I have.
My apologies . Life took a different turn...
Quoted from: Angry Birds for GNU/Linux
Sadly, Python Angry Tux didn't fare much better.
This is a retched hive of scum and villainy. Do you have nothing better to do than bash the work freely given to you? Goddamn ungrateful shits. What's more sad is you shills don't even get paid. You shill for Microsoft yet they laugh all the way to the bank at you.
So does that mean the one guy's friends didn't finish drawing the sprites? :-(
An ORM looks after SQL injection
You need to find out what linq is.
It is not just a bunch of SQL statements.
My apologies . Life took a different turn...
Even their excuses are fucked up.
Why can't they just say "got bored of it. If you want it, take it" instead of all this life changing crap.
I don't get it.. why don't the Occupy protestors just protest the war in Iraq and Afganistan?
At least they'd have a single unifying goal. And sympathy from regular folk.
But his life did change. He met a tranny hooker named Lola.
Why can't they just say "got bored of it.
Nah, the real reason was that none of them could program in the first place.
Remember they were all using it as way to learn python/opengl/c++ etc.
Yet if you look in Python Angry Tux Dude's posting history, he spends a crapload of time sitting on OMGUbuntu posting shit to those "say something about the poster above" threads.
Lesson: it's easier to talk about writing a game, post polls and shit, than it is to sit down and actually just write the damn thing.
Had he written the game, he'd then have to support it, put up with complaints about why X doesn't work, generally listen to complaining freetards.
Much more fun circlejerking about "wouldn't it be awesome if.."
captcha: madver mad versioning system
Nah, the real reason was that none of them could program in the first place.
Lies! One of them knew "basic c/c++". That's the sign of a guru programmer who can lead the development of a complex piece of software.
Isn't it funny how most freetards claim to have "basic c/c++" knowledge? It's like they think if they say that they'll get some sort of cred yet they can barely chunk out hello world without stumbling.
Isn't it funny how most freetards don't think of themselves as freetards?
I don't know why somebody doesn't just pickup the code and run with it! The groundwork and heavy lifting has already been done:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10475411&postcount=112
The main loop is already implemented!
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10249419&postcount=36
Ulu'Roo
What the fuck?
God damn this shit sucks ass. This shitty ass shit can't even recognize a fucking link and format it automatically?
What a fucking piece of shit.
lol, sure.
My apologies . Life took a different turn...
So you made the change? Enjoy womanhood.
BROS ANGRY BIRDS??? LOL THIS IS A REAL GAME BROS GET IN IT . JUST SPEND A FEW MINNITS WATCHIN THE VID K? THIS IS WHAT LIFE IS ALL ABOUT
BECAUSE WHO DOESNT WANNA BE JOHNNY GAT
But his life did change. He met a tranny hooker named Lola.
Lucky son-of-a-bitch.

Oh lord, that guy's voice, so annoying.
Game looks funny as fuck though.

THIS LOOKS SHOPPED. I CAN TELL FROM SOME OF THE PIXELS AND FROM SEEING QUITE A FEW SHOPS IN MY TIME
But the original poster got it wrong: ORM frameworks do not perform Inversion of Control (IoC) or Dependency Injection (DI).
I was wondering how an ORM could provide those things, but since I'm just a freetard PHP/Drupal weenie though it was best to just shut the fuck up.
As for SQL injection prevention, PDO parameters provide it. Although in typically freetarded PHP fashion, despite it needing a type parameter when you call bindValue() to bind values to query parameters, it doesn't bother to check if the value is of the correct type. I'd expect it to at least cast the variable to the correct type or throw an exception.
So yeah, not convinced that SQL is low level and I'm ambivalent about ORMs. But then, what the fuck would I know? :)
SAX is an example of an API that uses inversion of control throughout (after initialisation). SAX is generally more efficient than DOM, but DOM is often considered more convenient to program with, because it is not necessary to deal with inversion of control.
Please Mozilla, why you does only use compositing on Windows? Why you don't fix bug?
Is it wrong to masturbate while reading Debian Control files for obscure -dev packages?
I'm wondering if I should leave my wife and kids to take up wanking over Debian packages full time.

Followed with an apology since your life took a different turn...

SQL is not low-level, it's just boring if you want to do more than write data models.
ORMs save time but they usually come with a price: performance.

when are Linux tablets going to take off? When they're thrown out a window when their owner realizes they spent $500 and it has no iTunes.
Would you wish for a phone where you can adjust the volume by holding another phone against it? Yes? Samsung FTW! It seems to be a hardware fault, but maybe Pogson can hack together a Bash script to rectify this. I'm counting on the power of FLOSS!
OpenPGP ported to Java.
please senor,i reinstal phone but it no work, they keel my family
For all who came to realize that their Samsung Phone's volume goes up if you put it near another Samsung phone:
# yum reinstall bash
or:
# echo 3 > /sys/class/loonix/volume/howmuchshouldputtinganotherphonenexttothisonefuckwiththevolume
where the number is an arbitrary one between 0 (turns the volume down but not silent) and 10 (really fucking loud). The solution with "echo" is, of course, only temporary. Reinstalling bash solves the problem. Naturally, both commands have to be executed as root.
Fucking bell-ends, love their jargon. This is Canonical's Justin Kirkland talking about their new system to help with deployment, configuration and central monitoring of servers:
This design worked very well in the traditional "configuration management" approach to data center maintenance.
Instead, we're taking a very modern, opinionated approach on the future of the data center. In the Orchestra 2.x series, we have adjusted our design from that traditional approach to a more modern "service orchestration" approach, which integrates much better into the overarching Ubuntu Cloud strategy. Here, we're using Ensemble to provide a modern, Cloud-ready approach to today's data center.
So previously we did central configuration of servers, now we do modern, opinionated, cloud-ready service orchestration.
1. Fuck you, Dustin, for being such a jargon-spewing twat. Seriously, fuck you.
2. Hasn't Windows been doing this shit with AD and WSUS for fucking years (or is WSUS just for workstations)?

Yup. He's a douche.
OpenPGP ported to Java.
I had to laugh at this trolling attempt (good job Sir).
You called JavaScript, Java which is always a great way to piss off Java fags.
I wen to ape store to instal apes, but they no work
I need to build a Web server to host a few Web sites. But how do I do it in an opinionated, modern, cloud-ready way?
I was just going to install a Web server, a database and some other software, but now I have to be opinionated too?

Thank you.
Of course now I am afraid to go dumpster diving for Durdenstations since learning that the insane fucker lives in my town.... They ought to register people like him and track their movements. :(
He may have unregistered guns. Be careful.

No, it's because assfaces with far too much money to waste are skewing the results.
Link in name is probably indicitive of the average linux donation.

Hullo there linux haters of the future.
I look forward to the anime doom 3 game now that the source has been released.
